Accessibility Statement
ICE Innovations Inc. wants everyone to be able to use Oak Ride, Oak Driver and Oak Drop, including people with disabilities. This statement explains the standard we hold ourselves to, what we do for riders who need accommodation, and how to tell us when something is in the way.
Our standard
We aim for the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 at level AA across the website and both mobile apps. In practice that means: every control has a label that screen readers announce; the apps work with VoiceOver on iOS and TalkBack on Android, including the fare proposal flow and the safety button; text can be enlarged to 200% without loss; color is never the only way information is shown (the demand map shows counts as well as colors); touch targets are at least 44 by 44 points; and motion can be reduced through the system setting. We test with assistive technology before each major release. Where we fall short, we fix it in the next release and say so on this page.
Riders with disabilities
- Service animals. Drivers must accept riders with service animals. A driver who refuses is removed from the platform. Riders may note a service animal in their profile so drivers are not surprised, but are never required to.
- Mobility devices. Drivers must accept folding wheelchairs, walkers, scooters and other devices that fit in the trunk or back seat, and must help load them when asked. Oak does not yet offer wheelchair accessible vehicles with ramps or lifts in every area; where available they appear as a vehicle option in the app, and we are recruiting drivers with WAVs across the Triangle.
- Communication. Riders who are deaf or hard of hearing can set the app to flash and vibrate for driver arrival and can message rather than call. Drivers see a note that the rider communicates by text.
- Assistance. Riders may request in their profile that the driver meet them at the door and assist to the vehicle. Drivers are expected to provide reasonable assistance; they are not expected to provide medical care or lift a person.
- Booking for someone else. You can book a ride for another adult and follow it live.
Drivers with disabilities
Drivers with disabilities are welcome and are held to the same safety standards as everyone else. Hand controls and other vehicle adaptations are fine as long as the vehicle passes inspection and the adaptation is noted on the driver's license where North Carolina requires it.
Known limitations
As of November 7, 2026: the demand map in the driver app is not yet fully navigable by screen reader (cell counts are read, but moving between cells requires sight); wheelchair accessible vehicles are not yet available in every service area; and some older PDF documents on this site are not tagged. All three are on the roadmap and this page will be updated when each is fixed.
Tell us about a barrier
Email accessibility@oakrides.com or call the number in the app. Describe what you were trying to do, the device and assistive technology you were using, and what happened. We answer within 5 business days and tell you what we will do about it. If you need a policy or receipt in an alternative format, such as large print or plain text, ask and we will provide it.
